Dry Needling · Buford, GA
Release the tension you carry in your neck.
Long days at a screen, driving, and stress often show up as tight, tender muscles across the neck and tops of the shoulders. Dry needling may be one option to address that muscle tension within a physical therapy plan.

The Basics
Neck discomfort is frequently linked to muscles that work hard to hold the head steady during sustained postures. Over time, those muscles can develop tender, knotted areas sometimes called trigger points, and may contribute to stiffness or pain that spreads toward the head or shoulder blade.
Your physical therapist evaluates neck motion, posture, and the muscles involved before deciding whether dry needling may be appropriate. If it is, it is used as one tool to help reduce muscle tension so you can move and strengthen more comfortably.
Areas Assessed
Areas your physical therapist may examine. Needling is only considered when examination findings support it.
The broad muscle across the tops of the shoulders is a frequent source of tension with desk work and stress.
Muscles that run from the neck to the shoulder blade can feel tight when turning your head, such as when checking blind spots.
Small muscles below the skull may be tender in people who experience tension-type headaches.
Deeper muscles along the cervical spine can stiffen with sustained postures and limited movement.
FAQs

Some people with tension-type headaches have tender muscles in the neck and upper shoulders. When your evaluation supports it, dry needling may be considered for those muscles as part of a broader plan. It is not used for migraines or headaches from other medical causes.
When performed by a trained clinician using appropriate technique, it is generally considered safe, but it does carry risks. Your therapist will review the specific risks for the areas being treated before you decide.
Mild soreness for a day or two is common. Some people also feel temporarily tired. Your therapist will give you aftercare instructions.
